Violence Prevention Grey Bruce is offering three video workshop opportunities for high school students. The workshops can be booked by youth groups, classes, or groups of friends and are part of the Art For Change contest the committee is currently running to raise awareness about healthy and unhealthy relationships.

The contest is collecting graphic art and design from middle school and high school students as well as 60-second video submissions from students in grades nine to twelve. The videos can include anything from animation to music and spoken word. Thanks to grant support from the Community Foundation Grey Bruce, Violence Prevention Grey Bruce can offer three four-hour workshops across Grey and Bruce counties. The workshops will include guidance from a facilitator to crystalize participant ideas and the use of iPads to record their submissions.

“We know that not everyone has access to video equipment”, said Violence Prevention Grey Bruce coordinator Jon Farmer. “We want to reduce barriers to participation by taking the tools to people who might not have the equipment but who are interested in sharing their ideas and participating in the contest”.

Interested students, youth leaders, and teachers can book a workshop directly by contacting [email protected]. The three workshops will be booked on a first come basis. The contest deadline is January 17th and the workshops will be scheduled for the beginning of January. Full contest details are available through the Violence Prevention website and there will be cash prizes for the top three submissions in each category. Submissions will be shown and the winners will be announced at a public ceremony in February.
