Mudtown Music and Arts Series presents the 1924 silent British Antarctic Expedition documentary film "The Great White Silence" ‎with a live, original soundtrack by the Silent Film Ensemble on Saturday, February 21st at the Roxy Theatre, Owen Sound. Herbert Ponting's famous documentary of Captain Scott and crew's grueling three year-long expedition to win the South Pole is both a technical and historic marvel - capturing breathtaking first time footage of the most southerly continent and documenting a heroic, ultimately tragic endeavour. The event will include an exhibition of polar exploration artifacts from the Grey Roots Museum, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic Silent Era cocktails stylized specially for the occasion by Merideth's Ginger Syrup of Meaford. Attendees are requested to dress in black and white, formal, or period dress. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door, available from the Roxy Theatre box office, or by visiting www.mudtownrecords.com.

The Owen Sound Artists' Co-op offers bright, fresh talent during the cold winter months. The Legacy Gallery is exhibiting work from the Next Generation group of emerging youth artists. From a 16-year-old bookbinder to a 30-year-old potter, with many diverse ages and medias in between, this show embodies the breadth of talent living within the boundaries of Grey and Bruce Counties. Along with our 40 regular Co-op members, and our guest artist for February, knitter Patti McMeekin, the Artists' Co-op provides a warm haven of art and craft. Open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 to 5:30, an artist is always in attendance!

Bunce-featWell-known Owen Sound artist Tom Bunce, presents a showing of his bright, colourful landscape paintings in the Griffin Gallery in the Roxy Theatre. The Exhibit will run till Saturday March 14th. The Gallery is open to all, free of charge and is located on the 2nd Floor of the Grassroots Solar Building, 828 3rd Ave East in downtown Owen Sound.

Bishop House: Museum, Archives & National Historic Site invites you to view our new temporary display, 'Pte. Arthur John Mackey' curated and installed by OSCVI co-op student, Melanie Pledger. The display tells of the life of Arthur Mackey, a local Collingwood township boy, who enlisted in 1917 and made the ultimate sacrifice in 1918. Arthur's story is told through his letters to and from his family, personal items and interpretive panels. The groundwork for this display began when Melanie volunteered to transcribe Arthur's letters over the summer after they had been scanned for the OSCVI History Department. Knowing that her co-op would begin at Bishop House in September, she chose to create a display based on the letters and additional research she conducted. The 'Pte. Arthur John Mackey' display will be visible in Bishop House's Education Centre until April 26th, 2015.
