Orchestra North faculty from across Canada are collaborating to offer online private lessons, interactive workshops, and performances from August 4-7. Orchestra North will offer classes for strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and more with online lessons, workshops and concerts.

ONLINE LESSONS: Participants will have opportunities throughout the program to work one-on-one with our renowned professional faculty.

INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS: Participants can register for interactive workshops on various topics, musical styles, and techniques.

INSTA-KLEINE CLASSICS: A chance to participate in “Insta-Kleine Classics,” an exciting Instagram virtual concert presentation.

Fiddle Class: Celebrate our rich fiddling heritage and learn a tune! This workshop can accommodate beginning and novice players, learning by ear per the fiddle tradition. More advanced players and teachers are welcome to sit in and learn alongside us.

Junior Strings: Just starting out on a string instrument? Join our Junior strings class and learn songs that you will want to play all summer! Led by the popular and creative Kent Dykstra, this class will be a highlight of the festival!

Brass Class: Ontario meets British Columbia as our unite to share their knowledge and music. Under the guidance of esteemed performers and educators Dr. Aaron Hodgson and Jeremy Berkman, participants will play, learn and collaborate in interactive online classes.

Woodwind Workshops: these three workshop slots will be led by our woodwind faculty to best meet the interests of our wind player applicants. Masterclasses, breathing techniques, and maintenance are in the plan.

Interactive Cello Class: Led by our amazing cello faculty, this cutting edge approach to online classes invites you to bring your instruments to a Masterclass, allowing you to explore musical ideas and passages, learn practice techniques, and hear new repertoire, from the comfort of your own home. (All ages)

String Technique: The foundation of every successful string player is a strong command of scales, etudes, and technique. Led by Pedro Meireles, Concertmaster of the Orquestra do Sinfonica Portuguese, this class will develop speed, accuracy, and musicality that creates strong, confident musicians.

Baroque Technique: Join Orchestra North for an exploration of the shimmering world of baroque music. This interactive class will outline the many unique techniques that create a vibrant musical impact. Recommended age: 12 and up

Vibrato Tips & Technique: Vibrato is an essential tool for expressivity in string playing. Led by Dr. Steve Sang Koh from Northern Iowa University, this workshop will explore the various hand motions, speeds, and amplitudes to suit every unique mood and character in the music you make.

Piano Program: Internationally renowned piano professors Dr. Jane Hayes and Dr. Jelena Vladikovic invite pianists to register for private sessions and masterclasses. Open to all levels of players.
