The decisions made at Owen Sound city council are going to impact Travis Dodd's life and his future children's lives. That is why he wants to be at that table.

The 27 year old Dodd was born and raised in this city, graduated from West Hill and after a university degree in political science he volunteered internationally with Canadian development agencies. But he always knew he was coming back to Owen Sound. "The motto fits," he said in an interview, "It is where you want to live. It is about pride of place."

  • Chris Geberdt, veteran volunteer with the Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular, brought greetings to council from "The Big Tent". His passion for his community could not be missed as he spoke of the year-long promotion for the event from Port Credit to Sudbury. The event itself draws 50,000 people through the site, 450 volunteers and 150 corporate sponsors. "People think fishing derby, they think rubber boots and fishing poles," he said. "But it is so much more than that." Geberdt said his own grandson was giving free hugs along with Tim Horton's gift cards to visitors in wheelchairs. Special events and entertainment for kids, seniors and ladies all lead up to the huge fish fry on the last weekend. The event will make close to $40,000 for local conservation projects. Oh yes, and people fish too.

Councillor David Adair, who is running for deputy mayor, spoke to The Hub recently about his campaign and his vision of the city.

Kepler-regOwen Sound – As a prominent Owen Sound landlord, Jon Kepler has been watching news coverage of the BCK bylaw issue with special interest. Effective immediately, Mr. Kepler is offering to purchase $500,000 worth of preconstruction residential or retail space on the BCK site. This offer is subject to his approval of the final cost per square foot and his inspection of a site plan. If no site plan exists, he is willing to wait until one is drafted. The exact details of the development are inconsequential to him. If this offer is accepted in the next seven days, a deposit will be provided within 24 hours.
