emergency kit 1Emergency Preparedness Week is a Canada-wide annual event that takes place the first full week of May. The campaign is aimed at increasing awareness of individual and family preparedness across Canada.

This year to promote Emergency Preparedness week while maintaining physical distance, the City of Owen Sound is partnering with the County of Grey to host a virtual CANWARN Severe Weather Awareness and Preparedness session on Tuesday, May 4 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This virtual event will provide information about different types of severe weather, what to watch for in the sky, what weather information to report on Twitter (#ONStorm), and most importantly, how to stay safe when faced with severe weather conditions. Tickets to this event can be found at Grey.ca. This is a free event limited to the first 500 registrants.

Remember emergencies don’t happen when you expect them to:

Step 1 - Make a Plan
Learn about different emergencies and how to be prepared. It only takes a few minutes for your family to prepare an emergency plan. Having a plan in place will save time and make real situations less stressful.

Step 2 - Build a Kit
An emergency kit will help you and your family stay safe until emergency responders can reach you. Personalize your kit to suit the needs of you and your family.

Step 3 – Be Informed
Sign up for Ontario Emergency Alerts and learn about the hazards we can face and what we can do to stay safe.
