Councillor John Tamming gave the following notice of motion at tonight's council meeting.
Whereas in our sister county of Bruce, the Town of Kincardine has just experienced an appalling instance of misogyny and hatred expressed by one councillor to another;
And whereas there have been repeated instances of such misogyny in other municipal councils in recent years;
And whereas the powers of the Office of the Integrity Commissioner do not include the ability to recommend expulsion of councillors;
I hereby give notice that at our next full regular council meeting I will move that this city council correspond with the Minister of Municipal Affairs and request that such Ministry study the merits of allowing the impeachment of municipal councillors under carefully prescribed circumstances including displays of hatred, misogyny and all forms of discrimination.
