On Monday, September 19, Ontario will be marking the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with a provincial day of mourning in lieu of a provincial holiday. Premier Doug Ford announced Tuesday afternoon that in place of a holiday, Ontarians may observe a moment of silence at 1 p.m. on Monday in memory of Queen Elizabeth II, on the day of her funeral.

Therefore, in keeping with the provincial directive, the City of Owen Sound municipal facilities and services will remain open as per regular working hours.

Residents mourning Queen Elizabeth II are encouraged to take part in a wreath laying ceremony led by the Royal Canadian Legion Memorial Branch 6 at the Owen Sound Cenotaph (815 1st Avenue West). The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m., and a two-minute moment of silence will begin at 11 a.m.

The 800 block of 1st Avenue West will be closed on Monday, September 19, 2022 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. for the wreath laying ceremony.

Flags on City facilities have been lowered to half-mast since the Queen’s passing on September 8, 2022 in recognition of her decades-long service as Queen of Canada and Head of State.
