For those who have asked about the the former Legate's Furniture building across from Owen Sound city hall at 790 2nd Ave East and 8th Street.

According to Owen Sound Tourism's current downtown historic walking tour: This structure was built for William Legate in 1906, with shops below and apartments above. Legate established the Owen Sound Furniture House in 1914.

The building is not owned locally now. According to the latest MPAC property tax assessment role, provided to the City and made public in December 2022, the building belongs to SMB Inc., headquartered on Whitby Shores Greenway in Whitby, Ontario

legateinteriorFor those who have asked how they can let the City know that they are concerned about the condition and appearance of the building, here is the link to the Report a Concern form. Choose By-law complaint or General concern.  If you are making a by-law complaint, it will be under Unsafe property or property upkeep.

You will have to provide your name, address and contact information. Anonymous complaints are not accepted.

When you have successfully completed the form, you'll receive the following message:

"Thank you! We appreciate you taking the time to report a concern. This information has been routed electronically to the assigned staff member and will be actioned at their earliest opportunity. Have a great day!" and you will receive an email confirmation with the reference number assigned to the complaint.

Then you will receive a personal follow up email soon, signed by the By-Law Enforcement Officer,

"Good morning (your name), Thank you for contacting our office regarding your complaint. Our office has received previous complaints regarding the same concern. Our office is currently investigating this matter."

This will be encouraging because it will show you that your neighbours are also concerned.
