The Owen Sound River District launched a Locals Love It Here program on May 9, the Provincial Day of Action on Litter.
Locals Love It Here includes several initiatives that celebrate the locals who love the City of Owen Sound.
One initiative under the Locals Love It Here banner is a “Community Clean-up Kit” in partnership between the River District Board of Management and the City of Owen Sound. The “Community Clean-up Kit” will be available to borrow starting June 1, 2023. The kit consists of everything a community group may need to run a community clean-up, including but not limited to garbage and recycling bags, safety vests, gloves, trash pickers, and more, all housed in an easy-to-navigate wagon. Garbage and recycling collection through this initiative can be dropped at City Hall at a mutually agreed upon time during regular business hours, or bag tags can be arranged for disposal through regular garbage pick-up.
Booking for the carts will be available online after June 1st through owensoundriverdistrict.ca, owensound.ca, and directly through the Community Development Coordinator. Carts should be booked in advance to ensure they are available and picked up from City Hall and returned at a scheduled time.
The River District Podcast will be relaunching for season 3 as “My River District” in the fall of 2023. This interview-based talk show will also play a part in Locals Love It Here by inviting guests to speak about their love of the City and why they, as locals, love it here.
Other initiatives under the Locals Love It Here program will continue developing and be announced as available.
All participants are asked to tag @RiverDistrictOS on social media and use #LocalsLoveItHere.
