Two of Owen Sound's local residents are being featured in a 150th Anniversary project depicting what it means to be Canadian in Ontario.

Mrs. Verona Jackson and Mr. Michael McLuhan were both approached by the Lieutenant Governor's Office to provide 150 words about their patriotism, along with 148 other Ontarians.

Mrs. Jackson highlights the volunteerism and vibrancy of small-town Ontario, while Mr. McLuhan discusses the solace his family found in our province.

Stories fall into certain categories, including: A place to grow; Keep it beautiful; Caring Canadians; and Ontario in the world. They are written by other notable Ontarians, including: Penny Oleksiak; James Bartleman; Cameron Bailey; Maayan Ziv; Charlotte Grey; and Roberta Bondar.

"The Owen Sound area has a fascinating history of notable residents," said Mayor Ian Boddy. "Verona and Michael are two excellent choices for this unique anniversary project. I find their stories, and those of their compatriots, to be compelling and especially poignant today."
