An application for site plan approval coming to Owen Sound City Council this evening proposes to convert the former Victorious Living Centre (previously both a church and a billiard parlour), into downtown housing, storage and commercial space.
From the staff report:
"The proposal is to convert the existing church building to provide 6 apartment dwelling units and a small ground floor commercial unit in the portion of the building facing 2nd Avenue E. The existing basement is proposed to be converted into 20 indoor self-storage units.
Each dwelling unit will have an upper level. This upper level is a new horizontal plane within the existing structure and represents an addition which will be new Gross Floor Area within the existing envelope of the building.
The proposal also includes:
- A new ramp to access the commercial unit
- A walkway along the north side of the existing building
- Landscaping in the rear yard, including 4 new cedar trees and perennials
All existing trees on the property are proposed to be retained."
