The City of Owen Sound is pleased to announce Cathy Lindsay and Rod Wyatt as winners of our 2017 Volunteer of the Year award.
Cathy Lindsay is an integral part of countless organizations, groups and community events. A longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Memorial Branch 6, as well as the Royal Canadian Legion Memorial Branch 6 Ladies Auxiliary, Cathy also splits her time volunteering for Springfest Games, OSHare, Owen Sound Blood Donor Clinics as well as numerous other organizations. Cathy's most impactful contribution has arguably been made to the Alzheimer Society Grey-Bruce who nominated Cathy for Volunteer of the Year Award.
"Cathy is indispensable as office support for the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce, providing assistance and guidance on a variety of projects and initiatives." stated Jennifer Isber-Legge of the Alzheimer Society. "Cathy embodies the spirit of volunteerism with an unfailing can-do attitude and a generous heart."
Rod Wyatt, a sports enthusiast has spent the majority of his time giving back to minor sports in Owen Sound. As a volunteer with Owen Sound Minor Soccer Association for more than 30 years, Rod has also spent over 20 years as a volunteer with Owen Sound Minor Hockey and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. In recent years, Rod has added Non-Profit Housing to his list of organizations to lend his time to.
Nominated by Owen Sound Minor Soccer Association, Rod is described as a tireless worker. "His work ethic and dedication are an inspiration to all of the people he has come in contact with over the years." said Angela Corrigan of Owen Sound Minor Soccer Association. "Rod's volunteer efforts, contributions and accomplishments are worthy of our praise and recognition."
"Volunteers are the backbone of our community", said City of Owen Sound Mayor, Ian Boddy. "Both Cathy and Rod have displayed tremendous selflessness and generosity. Our community is lucky to have them and I am so pleased they have been selected to receive this prestigious award."
The City of Owen Sound's Volunteer of the Year award is chosen through nominations submitted to the City's Community Services Committee. Mr. Wyatt and Ms. Lindsay will both be honored by the City of Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy and Owen Sound Council at the May 8th council meeting.
