The City of Owen Sound is pleased to announce Elinor Gingrich as our 2017 Senior of the Year, to be honoured by Mayor Ian Boddy at this evening's City Council meeting at the Bayshore Community Centre.
Elinor has been an integral part of countless organizations, groups and community events throughout the years. A 50 year volunteer with the Owen Sound Comm-R-Ettes, Elinor has also donated her time to the Jaycettes, C.N.I.B., M.S. Society and the District Health Council and was also the recipient of the Ontario Trillium Award for Community Service.
Nominated by the Owen Sound Comm-R-Ettes, Elinor is described by fellow Comm-R-Ettes member, Donna Doherty as "a tireless worker and active member of the Comm-R-Ettes who is instrumental in recruiting new members for the group."
The City's presentation of the award coincides with Senior's Month in Ontario, which is held annually in June.
"Volunteers are the backbone of our community", said City of Owen Sound Mayor, Ian Boddy. "Elinor has given her expertise, her commitment and most valuable of all – her time to many organizations. Fifty years with the Owen Sound Comm-R-Ettes is quite impressive and admirable."
The City of Owen Sound's Senior of the Year award is chosen through nominations submitted to the City's Community Services Committee.
