In August of this year, the City of Owen Sound launched 'Story Mapping', a new interactive mapping application that provides a unique way to share our story with residents, tourists and investors.
The application use ArcGIS software hosted by Esri, made available to the City through a partnership with Grey County.
The original map-based series include:
Cascade Application – Photos and text "cascade" through a scrolling story;
Story Map Application – Provides information on a tour or points of interest using photos and text, accessed by clicking points on a map;
Community Story Book Application – Allows the public to share photos and a short story based on a location on a map.
The new addition to the series is the Interpretive Plaques layer which provides contextual information to the sixty-eight plaques located around Owen Sound as well as their GPS location.
The applications are accessible by tablet, smartphone, and home computer.
They can be viewed at https://www.owensound.ca/en/living/gis-and-mapping.aspx. One application features our local waterfalls, another highlights points on the Salmon Tour, and a third, our "Community Story Book," allows the public to post photos and stories.
