Owen Sound Fire & Emergency Services would like to remind all residents to ensure their house numbers are clearly visible from the road in order to assist First Responders in finding houses promptly in emergency situations.
During the Fire & Emergency Services annual home visitation program, firefighters visited selected areas in the city to check for working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. It was observed by fire crews that several home identification numbers were obstructed, worn off, illegible, or some cases absent.
"When our crews respond to an emergency call, the first thing they are looking for is the house number to identify location," stated Fire Chief Doug Barfoot. "In a situation where the emergency may not be clearly visible from the exterior, a visible house identification number allows our crew to ensure they are responding to the correct location."
