The City of Owen Sound is pleased to announce Ryan Brown as its 2019 Youth Volunteer of the Year.
Ryan is a well known volunteer in our community and a familiar face to many. Since 2013, Ryan has been volunteering his time to improve the lives of others. Mr. Brown has spent time volunteering for many causes but is best known for organizing Owen Sound’s first LGBTQ Pride Parade – which is happening again on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.
Nominated for his efforts volunteering as a Board member with Grey-Bruce Pride, Mr. Brown has served for many other organizations including founder of Bayview School’s Gay Straight Alliance, Owen Sound’s Roxy Theatre, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Heart & Stroke, Student Council, Student Senator and now holds an executive position as Public Board Council President with the Ontario Student Trustee Association.
“Ryan is a passionate young man who works hard to see his goals become a reality,” said Mayor Ian Boddy. “It’s astonishing to see him take on such leadership and set an example for youth in our community. He continues to lead by example and remains a resource to many”.
The City of Owen Sound’s Youth Volunteer of the Year award was introduced in 2018 and is chosen through nominations submitted to the City’s Community Services Committee. Mr. Brown was honoured by Mayor Ian Boddy and members of City Council at a ceremony at the Ginger Press following the raising of the Pride flag at City Hall earlier this morning.
