According to the following staff report prepared for Monday's Owen Sound Council meeting, buses should be running between Owen Sound and Guelph by spring.
The City was awarded a grant of $1,240,000 on April 30, 2018 to develop and operate a daily Owen Sound to Guelph transit route. The City was notified on January 25, 2019 that the new Provincial government would be following through on the grant award.
The City subsequently issued an RFP for a transit consultant to assist in defining the project details and selecting a service provider. The City has since been working alongside a selected transit consultant to find a courier to provide the bus service between Owen Sound and Guelph.
The service will include stops in Chatsworth, Williamsford, Durham, Mount Forest, Arthur, Fergus and Elora.
The City recently received the Transfer Payment Agreement (TPA) that will allow to the province to provide the funds under the provisions of the Agreement. Under the terms of the grant, the transit service must become operational within one year of signing the TPA.
Staff expect the service to be executed no later than March, 2020.
