Asked by student Taylor Shepperd of Owen Sound City Council at public question period, February 10.
"On December 2– concerned youth, myself included, asked for climate action.
At that meeting you gave us hope by asking staff to report on how the city could achieve the UN’s Greenhouse gas emissions targets.
Our city manager strongly advised council to hire a climate change coordinator. You agreed to do this and approved funds in the 2020 budget.
Now it seems you are back-tracking and delaying.
Many of my school mates and grownups in the community are completely in the dark about this very real issue.
We need action and awareness.
Our question is – how long do we have to wait for you to take action to plan for a safe and healthy future for us?"
