The Province of Ontario announced on May 14, that some restrictions would be lifted as part of the first stage of the government’s reopening framework. This announcement includes parks and some recreational amenities within the City of Owen Sound that were closed to the public by order of the Province.
The City’s three municipal boat launches will reopen to the public at 12:01 AM on Saturday, May 16. This includes:
- The West Side Boat Launch located at 1455 1st Avenue West. The launch ramp docks are not installed at this time. Plans to install the docks are underway.
- The East Side Boat Launch located at 1900 3rd Avenue East.
- The East Bayshore Road (RCA) Boat Launch.
Boaters and anglers are strongly encouraged to practice the physical distancing guidelines provided by the Grey Bruce Health Unit while fishing and using boat launch amenities.
Seasonal boat launch passes are available at the West Side Boat Launch or by calling 519-371-1988. Daily passes are available at the East Side Boat Launch Pay n' Display machine. Garbage cans are provided at the boat launch areas. Anglers are asked to dispose of all masks, gloves and protective gear in the receptacles provided.
City Parks and Trails remain open for public use, but many of the recreational amenities within remain closed including all public washrooms, benches, basketball court and playgrounds. The tennis court at Harrison Park is open for use by the public beginning Tuesday, May 19.
