Portions of Kelso Beach Park remain closed due to ongoing impacts of high water levels. The Waterfront trail and area between the splash pad along the trail north of the beach washroom building are closed. This includes the waterfront trail, beach within the area indicated on the map, amphitheatre and picnic pavilion. The splash pad, playground and Order of Good Cheer washroom remain open.
City staff are installing temporary fencing to delineate the closure, shown in orange on the map.
An alternate pedestrian route is delineated by the broken blue line on the map. A portion of the Kelso Beach parking area will be used as a pedestrian walkway and will be indicated on the ground by white paint markings and orange barricades.
The City is working to undertake capital works including the installation of shoreline protection around the mouth of the stormwater outlet, shoreline and beach to make this area usable and protect the park from further impacts of high water and wave action. This work was included in the 2020 approved capital budget.
