Local resident David Strutt has been documenting on his Facebook page the removal and re-building of the 100 year old 10th Street bridge over Owen Sound's Sydenham River since it began last October. He has generously allowed the Owen Sound Hub to share his photo-essays on our own Facebook, and as we get closer to the scheduled opening in December, we are sharing this chapter here.
The next time photo chapter of the 10th St. bridge project.
A large yellow mobile truck crane, from Vanwyck's Crane Service, has a project to dis-assemble the large white excavator that was part of the bridge construction earlier in the project.
The photos give a closeup of the operation as the crane boom is loaded onto a tractor trailer. In the background you will notice the large white counter weights of the crane sitting on the ground. They will be next to be trucked away.
The whole crane is dis-assembled and loaded on trucks to be taken to other construction project sites.
Wood forms are now being constructed on the main frame of the bridge. The bridge crews are busy framing up for the next step of the project.
Crews are also working on each end of the bridge at the girder ends to create forms for cement to be poured into the area where the re-bar rods are in the cement base of the bridge.
On the east side of the bridge, a bridge technician is taking electronic meter readings at the side of the bridge. Computer technology is now a major part in designing and building bridges, and alignment in the process.
There is more space under the bridge girders than we think when you look at the photo taken north of the bridge.
The view from the west side looking across the bridge, gives a view of the down town area on 10th St. East, it does not seem that wide from the photo angle.
The 1887 Seldon Hotel is the Iconic landmark on the corner of 10th St and 2nd Ave East. A photo landmark!
The view from the west side over looking the bridge construction sit has changed a lot in the last few months.
The giant pile of stone and gravel gives a new appearance at 1st Ave. west by the new retaining wall at the bridge.
On 1st Ave West, we now have a new view, as the bridge is taking form over the Sydenham River, beside the iconic Gavaris building, that has been here for over 100 years.
Another photo chapter of the 10th St. bridge project ends. The photos are for everyone who enjoy the photo moments of this bridge construction event, sharing with you, also with historians, and with my friends.
