Dear Members of Council,
I understand you will be voting on approval for a drive-through in a proposed business at the corner of 10th St. E and 9th Ave. E.
I request you deny this drive-through proposal.
Over the past 8 years, this council has consolidated the City's anti-idling by-law, stated that you were applying a "climate lens" to the Official Plan, and claimed Owen Sound as a "Green City "and a "Safe City" in our Strategic Plan.
Yet in addition to the existing drive throughs at four Tim Hortons locations, Harveys, Wendy's and A&W, you have approved drive throughs for Cashtown Burger, Freshii, Popeyes, Starbucks, Osomos and Booster Juice, the Bank of Montreal, Rexall and Burger King. Two of these are at the same 10th/9th corner.
Another one or two on 16th St. East are pending, and tonight you are being asked to approve a site plan for your 16th or 17th drive through at one of the busiest intersections in the city, at the top of a steep hill.
I think this location is a very poor choice for traffic flow and safety. A lineup of cars may clog the road's turn lane , and drivers will pay less attention to pedestrians crossing an already busy intersection .
Please deny the approval for this drive-through. Thank you.
Regards
Ted Stewart, Owen Sound
