Sometimes a law will have unintended consequences. A judge might say, "I agree with you but the law says differently." That could be a reason for the using the notwithstanding cause.
To use it otherwise and especially at the same time countermanding the judiciary is a clear sign that our democracy is under attack.
Just because a government has a right to do something does not give it license to use that right inappropriately. Ford by saying that he is elected and not appointed is actually stating that he holds himself above the law.
The real problem here is not Doug Ford, rather it is all of his MPPs who are reluctant to stand up to him.
