Today it is incumbent on me to share the truth.
As many are aware an extreme cold alert for this province is in effect.
The challenge we have is that after 11 p.m. until 8 a.m. there is no warm safe place to go if you are in a crisis.
As an Outreach Worker, we continue to see every night those who are struggling to stay safe in this region.
No matter what our municipal, Regional and Provincial governments are saying; there still are people in danger.
To share all the truths of this situation would be a book.
I am calling our situation a real state of emergency.
Many persons with substance abuse and mental health issues are now at extreme risk with the deteriorating weather.
The person(s) who might find themselves in a crisis at night will find themselves with no place of safety.
My plea today is for local, regional, provincial persons to acknowledge they have not been successful.
Please, on behalf of my friends, let us do something right NOW to alleviate the risk and most likely save lives.
Thinking the Best,
Ray Botten
