As we approach Autism month, here's one example that mirrors why I don't 'light it up blue' or cover myself in puzzle pieces to raise awareness.

Autism$peaks wants to 'cure' autism. They supported Andrew Wakefield and the anti-vaxx movement. They think people like my son and my best friend shouldn't exist, or are 'suffering' from a disease worse than measles, mumps and rubella. Here is another mother's perspective.

Educate yourself this month, or any month, by reaching out to members of the autistic community. The Autism Self Advocacy Network (ASAN) and its Canadian affiliates are a phenomenal resource for friends and family members wanting to learn more about autism.
