peopleDear Editor,

Is the PC government's spring budget "for the people"? There are a few tidbits that are helpful to a few people, but overall, it is very much lacking.

There are two ways to balance a budget. You can cut costs or increase income. The best way to cut costs is to get rid of spending that you don't need. I believe the government could cut costs by not hiring friends as consultants for big money. The government could also not waste money on changing signs and logos at a time of "austerity".

The government also could increase income by making taxes more fair. Now is not the time to be cutting taxes for the richest in Ontario.

Bill Walker has talked about the good things for our area in the budget. Again, these are tidbits. For example, building a hospital is great, until you find out that there will be cuts overall to healthcare. Will Bill Walker stand up for our area and talk about the parts of the budget that are going to hurt us?

It really is about priorities. I believe in a society where we care for each other and look after each other. In that society, we don't cut needed funding for health care, schools, or people who are down on their luck. Clearly, the PC government has different priorities.

Sincerely,

Karen Gventer
