Re: Education Minister must provide timelines: Schreiner
We are in uncharted waters. Our leaders, political views aside, are human and very likely exhausted, emotionally drained from working nonstop and worrying about their own loved ones and the thousands of people they are expected to serve.
Please continue speaking up for those who need your help, a voice and are falling through the cracks; we need you. Without a crystal ball however, I believe some decisions are worth holding back on. We’d all like certainty but the world can’t provide that now; its leaders can’t either.
Schools provide so much more than education and yes, ideally we’d all like to know what to plan for. It’s not possible right now. If public venues are canceling performances and events until the summer, I think it’s safe to predict that collecting children in a small physical area - buses, classrooms, washrooms, hallways - isn’t in our near future.
Teachers are working really hard right now to provide emotionally, physically and academically for the children and families they serve. Additionally, our schools aren’t funded (or air conditioned) to be kept open over the summer.
I don’t envision school being extended into the summer; the best case scenario for our children would be to spend their summer hours enjoying fresh air, exercise and fun with their friends.
