familyhome1During this past year of Covid restrictions, many of us have the privilege to live with a family. Family, whether biological or chosen, is important; it provides us with a sense of belonging.

The Familyhome program connects adults with developmental disabilities who want to live in a family type setting with people who would like to share their lives and homes.

Each homesharer is unique in terms of age, ability, interests, and diagnosis, and each homesharer offers the opportunity to provide an enriching experience to anyone’s life.familyhome2

A homeprovider may be single person, a couple or a family welcoming a person needing support to live in their home. The Familyhome program works hard to match the interests and values of the individual and the family.

Each homeprovider and homesharer are supported by a team of competent, empathetic, Familyhome workers, with regular visits and access to a 24-hour support line, if your worker is unavailable. There is also plenty of opportunity available for training and self-improvement through trainings, as well as opportunities to connect with other peers from all over the program at annual events including the Christmas Party, and Summer Picnic.

Familyhome workers collaborate with local agencies, service providers, and volunteers to ensure each homesharer is active and integrated into the life of the local community. Supported day programs, volunteer/work placements, post-secondary education and recreational activities may also be part of the supports, for homesharers.

We are actively seeking willing families to share the privilege of a family home in Grey, Bruce, Huron and Perth Counties.

If you or someone you know think you may be interested in being part of the Familyhome program, please contact Maurice Koetsier, Familyhome Supervisor at [email protected], or by calling 519-291-5401 ext225. We would be more than happy to provide you with more information, and discuss available opportunities within the program.
