Grey Bruce Elder Abuse Prevention (GBEAP)will host a free elder abuse awareness presentation on Thursday, March 11 at 1pm. The presentation is co-hosted with Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario and will take place on Zoom but participants can call in by phone as well.

The March 11th presentation is the second and final virtual awareness presentation made possible by a grant from the Community Foundation Grey Bruce. The grant allowed GBEAP to create a poster listing resources available to respond to elder abuse in Grey and Bruce counties.

One year in to the pandemic, issues of isolation and support for older adults have increased the risk of elder abuse. The Seniors Safety Line of Ontario – a 24/7, confidential and free resource that provides information, referrals and support in over 150 languages for seniors experiencing abuse – has experienced a 300% increase in calls during the pandemic.

Elder abuse can be physical, sexual, financial, psychological, or isolation and neglect. The one-hour presentation will introduce the issue in more detail, talk about ways to support older adults experiencing abuse, and describe the resources available in Ontario and Grey and Bruce.

Registration for the workshop is free and open now through the Violence Prevention Grey Bruce website (vpgb.ca) and Eventbrite.ca.
If you want to phone in, call Jon for details at 519-379-2574
