food driveA little friendly competition while helping out the community.

COVID-19 has dramatically increased the number of families who need to use our local food organizations, including OSHARE and the Salvation Army food bank. To help meet this need, the four elementary public  schools in Owen Sound are working together on a massive food drive.

Alexandra Community has teamed up with East Ridge against Hillcrest and Keppel Sarawak. Those from Owen Sound will understand the significance of the Eastside/Westside rivalry! Each donation item brought in by students and staff will be worth points and the team with the most points will win bragging rights. The principals of the losing schools will have their photos taken in front of their school dressed in an outfit chosen by the winning team.

The points system:

For 10 points: pet food, canned fruit, cereal, personal hygiene products (soap, toothpaste, shampoo, sanitary napkins, etc.), lunch snacks

5 point items: juice, canned meat/fish, pasta sauce, powedered milk, ketchup, mayo, mustard, salad dressing, cake mixes, flour, sugar, pork and beans

1 point items: rice, pasta, crackers, canned veggies, tea/coffee and other items not listed in the 5 and 10 point categories.

The schools are also welcoming financial donations through School Cash Online at bwdsb.schoolcashonline.com. Due to COVID-19, schools are not accepting cash or cheques at this time.

The food drive continues to April 5th.
