Pint-sized patrons of the West Grey Library have some great days ahead – and parents can relax, knowing their kids will have a good reason to practise their reading skills! Get Your Summer Read On Day is the first day of the TD Summer Reading Club, on June 16th and running until August 20th. The Library will be offering prizes for kids who report their reading progress, a Storywalk program (locations and dates TBD), and Grab & Go craft and activity bags.
The Mural Project: The Library is looking for help in making a mural at the Durham wading pool! For young people ages 10-18, it's a chance to contribute to a beautiful piece of art in the community. Email [email protected] to register for a mural workshop with local artist JP Morel. The last day to register is May 20th, for workshops on Saturday May 22nd or Sunday May 23rd.
And for adults, May brings the start of Roaming Readers. Join other West Grey readers in an all-walking, all-talking book show and tell. Discuss your latest read, and hear about others’, during a one-hour ramble around town on the last Thursday of the warm months. Meet at Durham branch at 2 pm for a socially distanced walk and chat. Rain or shine; walk all or part of the route. Call or email to confirm attendance at 519.369.2107, [email protected] so they don’t leave without you! Starts Thursday May 27th.
Or you might prefer The Creative Habit, a new virtual series that explores approaches to everyday creativity and gives participants ways to incorporate problem-solving and idea-generating into commonplace situations. A new session is released on the Library’s social media (check YouTube and Facebook) on the 4th Saturday of the month.
The Library’s Summer Bingo starts in July – get your card starting the end of May and get reading to fill in the squares and get yourself a bingo! Truly tiny prizes!
Reading with Ruff is a new feature in the Library’s newsletters for adults. Every two months Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound Member of Parliament Alex Ruff (who is an avid reader, as it turns out) will give readers a short and snappy report on his latest read, starting in June with Not Wolf Nor Dog by Wilmer Nadjiwon. See if you can spot the MP on the Library’s Who’s Reading Whom contest poster. That contest closes this month – get your guesses in for the West Grey personality behind each Canadian book. Posters and entry forms in and around Durham and at all West Grey Library branches, or by request at [email protected].
Details and updates will be posted outside the branch, online through the Library’s Facebook account, and on the West Grey Library website www.westgreylibrary.com.
