Alexandra Eagles are ‘getting into nature’ in a big way! From May 17th until May 31st, Alexandra School is hosting their first ‘Get Into Nature Photography Challenge’. Over the next two weeks, our families are being challenged to spend quality time in the natural environment.
While hiking is part of this project, it involves so much more. When in the forest or field, families are being encouraged to slow down and look closely, to really notice and appreciate the beauty of the world around them. Sometimes, the beauty in nature can be found in the simplest things – like dew on a spider’s web or a drop of water on a flower petal.
Families will be documenting their experiences and findings through photographs, artwork, reflections and writing pieces. At the end of the project, all of this will be collected and shared with our school family. This way, together, we can celebrate our connection to nature. Amber Stephens, the teacher who coordinated this project, identified the main goal as being, to help children and families get into nature and notice how it positively impacts our personal and collective wellness.
The learning possibilities connected to the Nature Photography Challenge are endless. Over the next two weeks, classroom learning will be connected to nature and there will be a variety of special guest speakers and presentations. To get our families fired up about being out in the wild, some of the staff of Alexandra Community School shared their own feelings about nature.
We are very excited about this special opportunity and we look forward to sharing our experiences in nature with the rest of our community.
