healing path 4Neighbourwoods North is looking for tree helpers. Every Tuesday evening, starting June 15th, tree helpers will be meeting at the Owen Sound Hospital Forest, opposite the emergency entrance, at 7 pm and working till 8:30. Throughout the summer we will be mulching, cutting the encroaching grass and watering the plants in order to maintain the thriving health of the trees and shrubs. Any assistance is more than welcome.

Feel free to show up with gloves and gardening tools if you have them or for more information, call Lloyd at 226-256-8804. Appropriate Covid precautions will be taken.

Zone Leaders are also needed. Zone leaders get their own area of the Forest or Pathway to work in by themselves or with others. Zone Leaders determine what "their" trees need and ensure it gets done. Let Loyd know if you are interested in becoming a zone leader.

2021 is full of goals for Neighbourwoods:

  • Complete naturalization of turn-around area at Hospital entrance with more plants, rocks, and signage.
  • Fall planting of indigenous wild flowers in areas being prepared south of helipad.
  • Excavate pathway in helipad area, adding berms and crushed stone for wheel-chair accessibility.
  • Continue tree planting in the fall augmenting the the forest & adding to the Healing Pathway trees.

Additionally, Neighbourwoods North is working with the city of Owen Sound to become a Tree City of the World, the 8th city in Ontario to earn this title. Organized by the United Nations and the Arbour Day Foundation, Tree Cities of the World recognizes and promotes excellence in urban forestry. Last year Cambridge was added. This year will be ours!
