Visitors to Hibou Conservation Area this summer, and for years to come, have a new place to play, thanks to an amazing community collaboration.
The Optimist Inclusive Playground was opened this afternoon after Katie Holovaci, President of the Optimist Club of Sydenham and District, thanked all of those who have supported the project since it began in early 2020. From neighbours who supported Canada Day celebrations in years past, to the Junior Optimists selling plants and collecting bottles, to the municipality of Meaford and the federal government providing grants, the project was a true work of partnerships. Families, unions, and local businesses contributed to make it happen, providing money, materials and labour.
The playground is on Grey Sauble Conservation Authority property, and the Authority is going to plant two trees to provide future shade for the playground, in honour of the Optimists.
