wendyscott

 - by Dennis Scott

Today, October 15, my sister Wendy would have been 65 years old.

I miss her profoundly as she was always my "kid" sister who became Head Girl at the OSCVI, after her Aunt Kay who led the way and myself as Head Boy in 1969.

Wendy went on to graduate with Honours Business and MBA towards progressing through Computer technology, then Human Resources as VP Diversity with the TD Bank. Not only am I proud of her academic and business accomplishments, Wendy was an integral part of the family we grew up with, including mentoring to all 11 family members.

She was articulate, intelligent, funny, inclusive, with an exceptional personality appreciated by many friends some of whom are my friends to this date. I miss her tremendously and know she is spiriting all of our ancestors to best managing those still here.

Wendy passed away from cancer at 41 after going through 7 doctors who thought her illness was "woman related stress" - a note to all women out there to obtain at least a 2nd opinion and early rather than statistically (i.e. age 50) qualified.

I'm please to leave you with a poem Wendy wrote just before her passing. Enjoy and as Wendy would say, "be the best that you can be" - "be the change you want to see".

In respect:

You Were Therewendyscottchild

You were there
Before we came
You took the hurt
You took the shame
They built the walls
To light your way
You beat them down
You won the day.
It wasn’t right
It wasn’t fair
You taught them all
You made them care.
Yes you were there
And thanks to you
There’s now a door
We all walk through
And we are here
For all to see
To be the best
That we can be.
Yes I am here
For all to see
To be the best
That we can be.
Yes I am here
Because you were there.
