Tim Cook BookAs a nation, we take time to honour and remember the men and women who have served, and who continue to serve, our country during times of war and conflict and times of peace. Each year the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre hosts an event leading up to Remembrance Day to honour this week of remembrance.

This year, on Saturday, November 6, the BCM&CC is hosting “Trench Talks: History is a Fight” with Mat Johnson. Mat is a local historian who has hosted events in the past for the BCM&CC. During this special presentation, Mat will screen an interview he completed with award-winning author and Canadian Military history expert Tim Cook. Following the screening, attendees will then join Mat in the exhibit ‘Bruce Remembers’ for a “Trench Talk.”

“This time of year is an important time for us to recognize and reflect upon the sacrifices men and women have made to protect our freedom and our country,” says Bruce County Warden Janice Jackson. “The Museum provides interesting programs that also educate us on our history.”

Tim CookTim Cook is the Director of Research at the Canadian War Museum (CWM). He was the curator for the First World War permanent gallery at the CWM, and has curated additional temporary, travelling, and digital exhibitions. He is the author of 12 books and over 100 academic articles and book chapters. In 2012, Tim was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal for his contributions to Canadian history and in 2013 he received the Governor General’s History Award for Popular Media: The Pierre Berton Award. Tim is a Director for Canada’s History Society, a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and a member of the Order of Canada.

“This is a great opportunity to hear from one of the premier military history writers in the world!” local historian, Mat Johnson, comments about the event. “If people haven’t read ‘The Fight for History’, it’s about the re-making of Canada’s Second World War experience. How, as Canadians, we tended to focus on the negative and controversial events rather than the amazing feats of arms – D Day, Ortona, etc.”
