Author, teacher, activist and traditional knowldge keeper Lee Maracle is now one of the Ancestors. A member of the Stó:lō nation, Maracle has been a mentor, inspiration and friend to Indigenous and non-Indigenous colleagues, writers, communities, readers and audiences across Turtle Island and around the globe.

As tributes begin, we share just a few of the words of others.

"I will miss her laugh, her teachings, her brilliance, and her leadership".

"She showed me we never 'lost our culture'... that "its not a set of keys we can lose. Instead it's a disconnect, waiting for us to reconnect."

Maracle herself said “The result of being colonized is the internalization of the need to remain invisible.” We will be forever grateful that she took her own path to become visible.

“My life has been a long, slow journey over very sharp rocks, but goddamn it if I didn’t dance over every last one of them.”

Gchi Miigwech, Lee Maracle.  Safe journey to the Spirit World.
