If you’re ready for some new clothes this spring but don’t have a lot of space in your closet, you can donate your gently used clothes and get some new ones at Grey County Clothing Swap’s second event happening April 9th, 2022 at theXchange Centre in downtown Owen Sound.
"Clothing swaps are a great way to get some fresh clothes without spending money as well as keeping your old clothes out of the landfill”, shares Kel Smith who volunteers running the swap. “We had a great event last fall with over 100 people coming to swap clothes and want to keep the momentum rolling. Almost everyone has something in their closet that they don’t wear. Swapping is a great way to create a more circular economy which helps save money and the planet. We’re accepting donations to help cover the cost of space rental, but other than that, all the clothes are completely free.”
Grey County Clothing Swap started off as a Facebook group, picking up and listing used clothes for other people to claim across Grey County. When the group took off and the donations kept rolling in, Smith decided the format needed to change to in-person events and has focused in on Owen Sound where most of the participants are located. The first swap that took place in the fall was held outdoors at Harrison Park. This will be the first indoor swap.
If you’re interested in participating, gently used clothes of all sizes can be dropped off at theXchange Centre at 825 2nd Ave East anytime after 1pm. Shopping then starts at 2pm and runs until 5pm. You can learn more about the swap and stay up to date with future events on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/greycountyclothingswap
