When we relocated to this area 5 years ago, we quickly realized that there wasn’t any support for epilepsy and seizure disorders, the closest being in London.

It was somewhat concerning for someone dealing with epilepsy and uncontrolled seizures. As many of you may know, this is not an uncommon condition. Nearly 1 out of 100 Canadians suffer from epilepsy, and 1 in 10 of us will have a seizure in their life. This means nearly 2,000 people in Grey/Bruce alone deal with epilepsy (based on national statistics). It is the 4th most common neurological condition in the world, yet receives almost zero funding or awareness.

This gave us the initiative to start Grey/Bruce Epilepsy on various social media platforms. We still felt as though we weren’t doing enough. After overwhelming support in the community, from patients, families of those suffering, or just the general population wanting to help, it drove us further. We then partnered with Epilepsy Canada to host events in our beautiful part of the world. In the last 2 years, our community has raised nearly $40,000 for epilepsy research; something that we should all feel extremely proud of. We hope to continue this trend by hosting more annual events, which also helps raise much needed epilepsy awareness throughout Grey/Bruce.

On August 6th, Epilepsy Canada and Grey/Bruce Epilepsy will be hosting the third annual Grey/Bruce Epilepsy event at Glendale Farms from 10am-3pm. We will have activities for all ages at Buckin’ Epilepsy: Family Fun Farm Day. Horse drawn rides, petting zoo, bouncy castles, pony rides, dunk tank, 50/50, prizes, just to name a few. For anyone unable to attend, but would still like to contribute to this much needed event, we have also partnered with Grey/Bruce Big Brothers/Sisters. Through the Epilepsy Canada website you can sponsor a child and their big brother/sister to attend the event and enjoy all of the activities.

We will also be running an online silent auction leading up to the event with further details announced on our social media accounts (Instagram: @greybruceepilepsy).

Our story living with epilepsy, past success in events, the details of the Family Farm Fun Day, and tickets can be found at:

We hope you can all join us for this sure to be exciting and fun day raising money and awareness for epilepsy and seizure disorders.
