Surrounded by the fall colours of Saugeen Shores’ beloved Fairy Lake on Tuesday, October the 4th at 2:00 to 3:00 pm at the Rotary Pavilion, the University of Waterloo researchers are inviting the public to hear initial project findings and recommendations from a multi-year study into improving the health of the lake, and to learn more about the local research project.
“An Afternoon at Fairy Lake” will also offer a chance to ask questions and speak with the Fairy Lake project team.
Following the presentation, all are welcome to take part in planting some native seedlings near the lake—bring your own trowel, gardening gloves or bare hands!
Fairy Lake Rotary Pavilion is at 260 High Street, Southampton.
Led by Dr. Rebecca Rooney and Dr. Heidi Swanson, the research team began studying the current condition of the lake last year, presenting their preliminary analysis to the Town of Saugeen Shores Council this summer.
The ecological restoration research project is being administered by the Nuclear Innovation Institute’s Environment@NII program and funded by Bruce Power, the Town of Saugeen Shores, University of Waterloo and Invasive Phragmites Control Centre, in partnership with the Historic Saugeen Métis, who have a long connection to this natural waterbody.
