On a weekend dedicated to thanks and gratitude, we want to share a local story. It started when we read this post by Sylvie Kindree:

"I’m not usually too public about things but as many people know already, I was hit by a car yesterday while jogging. I immensely appreciate all the hopeful messages I’ve received from everyone.

Truthfully, I am devastated. I’ve worked so hard to get my strong body back this year, and have come to love my morning walk/jog/dance and my time at the gym. I live for performing and am gutted to not be able to get on stage with my Hurricane family. I promise to myself and all of you that I will rise to this challenge before me, and work my way back to the Sylvie in this picture. (photo  by Jeff Friesen of Sylvie with My Son the Hurricane )

Then yesterday, posted beneath a photograph taken by Amber Vee where none of what you see is makeup but the lipstick, was this post of gratitude.

"I want to send out HUGE THANK YOUS to everyone!!!

sylviefighter1. The people who stopped to help me right after I got hit, kept me calm (relatively) and gathered all my things for me (particularly a lovely man named Tom and an off-duty paramedic)

2. The paramedics who scraped me off the road and tolerated my yelling and potty-mouth

3. Danno - sorry I called you from the ambulance to tell you you’d have to drive me to the airport for our show cuz my leg was fucked you were so calm and patient.

4. All the hospital staff who helped me at the OS hospital and laughed at my silliness

5. Kimmer & Jaret for retrieving my mangled body from the hospital, getting it up 4 flights of stairs and setting me up for healing time

6. Mike - sorry ‘bout it Thank you for all that you do despite your state of worry.

7. Anyone I’ve encountered since the accident who has been helpful, thoughtful and encouraging

8. Friends and family who have taken time to bring or send me things or come to visit or stayed to take care of me (especially my Mum Leah, my sister Naomi, and my cousin Ellie)

9. Everyone who has called, sent or posted messages

10. All the Drag Queens who distract me from the pain and continuously inspire me to live!!

I am beyond grateful to each and every one of you! It’s amazing to know that the world is so full of love and caring. I hope we can all spread more of that around!!

I am WERKING hard to heal and very excited to be on stage again with my Hurricane fam in a few weeks. I won’t be able to do all my regular dancing yet, but I promise to serve you extra sass!!"

If you want to see what Sylvie is fighting to get back to, here is one of her favourites, a school show.
