Gallery Night at the Movies presents Fire Of Love, Monday, Nov. 7, at 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Galaxy Cinemas in Owen Sound.
Premiering at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim, Fire of Love follows French volcanologist couple Katia and Maurice Krafft as they roamed the planet for more than 25 years capturing fiery tectonic explosions on film. Ultimately, they lost their lives in a 1991 volcanic explosion, leaving a legacy that forever enriched our knowledge of the natural world.
Director Sara Dosa and her team combed through countless hours of the Kraffts’ archival footage – scenes so jaw-dropping, enthralling, and dangerous, you have to see it to believe it – to tell a bold, moving love story.
Accompanied by a dreamy soundtrack and philosophically flowery narration by Miranda July, it’s a doomed love story on every level, a gorgeous collage of a film in which romance, scientific inquiry and death do a 93-minute dance.
