Fourteen athletes represented KT (Kim-Thibodeau) Tae Kwon Do in Markham at the Pan-Am Centre on Saturday, October 29 for the 21st Jung Ko Canadian Classic Tae Kwon Do tournament. Head Instructor Rick Thibodeau, Master James Lee, senior students Sherra Westerveld, and Alex Hawton were coaching the athletes in poomsae (patterns) and full contact kyorugi (sparring).
Over the 12-hour competition day, nine of our 14 competitors secured gold medal placements in sparring and patterns, besting their opponents in a spectacular showing of snapping kicks, punches, blocks, spins, and yells (gihaps). KT Tae Kwon Do secured 9 gold, 6 silver, and 10 bronze medals in total - with all athletes displaying the tenets of Tae Kwon Do in courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit.
Despite being a small school in a small city, our students strong work ethic and talent demonstrates that athletes from rural areas are just as motivated to continually improve themselves against the larger GTA schools. Our students strive to be the best in their own way, and it was truly our best showing in the three years since our school opened. We look forward to sharing our future successes with Bruce-Grey and thank you for your continued support of our athletes.
