As the season of giving approaches, the Georgian Bay Folk Society in Owen Sound is running a Giving Tuesday fundraising drive on Tuesday, Nov. 29, in support of the Summerfolk Endowment Fund.

Summerfolk Music & Crafts Festival, which just celebrated its 47th year this August, is a longstanding folk festival that brings music and art to the shores of Kelso Beach Park on the third weekend of August every year – and the Summerfolk Endowment Fund helps to ensure the future of this festival for generations to come.

Summerfolk draws in audiences from generations young and old to share a weekend of live music and make new memories together every year. Supporting the Summerfolk Endowment Fund directly contributes to the longevity of the festival to ensure this tradition continues for years to come.

“Our endowment fund really is about securing a future for the festival,” shares James Keelaghan, Summerfolk’s artistic director. “As folks contribute funds to it, this gives us a benefit each year and acts as a sort of rainy day fund. We’re encouraging all who are able to donate to this fund on Giving Tuesday, to ensure future generations can continue to experience the Summerfolk we all know and love.”

“This year’s Giving Tuesday campaign will be focused on raising awareness about the fund and spotlighting local talent,” says Jaret Koop, the operations manager for the GBFS. “We’re going to host virtual livestreams on our social media channels throughout the day, featuring live music and some Q&A time. We’re excited to spread the word and encourage folks to donate – every bit helps!”
