Whether you want to create personal memoirs, travel blogs or articles for publication, this introduction to travel writing at the Ginger Press will help. Topics to be covered include story-crafting skills, exploring potential markets; photography tips for publication; research techniques; and how to turn your travel experiences into engaging reading. Sandra J. Howe has been writing stories since grade school; she is regularly published in local and regional magazines. The course includes reading material, assignments, opportunities to read and critique and a field trip. Class starts Thursday September 17 for four weeks; register now ($125) at 376-4233.
If November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), October must be the perfect month for a pre-marathon novel course.
Local author Richard Thomas will teach you what you need to know to get your novel written in his 30-day Novel Course for Lazy, Undisciplined Writers. Topics to be covered include setting, genre, characters and character development; the controlling idea; the three levels of conflict; setups and payoffs; sub-plots; dialogue; and so much more. Beginning at 7:00pm, Tuesday October 6, this course includes four evening sessions and four Saturday afternoon check-ins in November during NaNoWriMo. It's time to do it! Register now ($195); class size is limited; phone 376-4233.
