There was a lot of careful passing during the well-attended Soup's On & Silent Auction. |
Soup's On!
Twenty five of them, in fact, from 13 potager professionals, and all of them were deemed delicious.
Nearly 2,000 bowls of soup were ladled out during Alzheimer Grey-Bruce's Soup's On & Silent Auction, Saturday, Jan. 28.
More than 330 people, plus 35 volunteers, sampled six soups of their own choice and looked over hundreds silent auction items during the fundraiser at Owen Sound's Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Organizers hope to make this an annual event, and the positive community response received Saturday certainly helps with this goal.
A panel of expert judges, including Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy and Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers, spooned their way to choosing the Best Creamy, Best Hearty and Best Vegetarian soups, while Society and soup supporters weighed in on the People's Choice Award.
There was no free lunch for the Soup's On! judges at Saturday's event. |
In the Hub's six-bowl reckoning everyone was a winner – but we'll let the judges do the hard work:
Best Creamy – Bacon, Mushroom and Swiss Soup
- Heat n’ Eat (Shallow Lake)
Best Hearty – Lentil Soup
- Sabitri’s (Owen Sound)
Best Vegetarian – Pumpkin Coconut with Root Vegetable
- Sheardown’s (Meaford)
Soup fans also made their collective preference known:
People's Choice Award – Green Chile Corn Chowder
- Walker's Catering (Tara)
Just $20 for six bowls and a vote at Alzheimer Grey-Bruce's Soup's On fundraiser. |
Alzheimers Grey-Bruce – and everyone who attended the popular event – would like to thank the the always-helpful Society volunteers, the thankfully-hungry judges, and especially the creators and ladellers of the soups:
