Following the wild success of last year's First Annual Grey Bruce Limerick Festival, we are delighted to welcome revellers in celebration of silliness and local lore.
The festival began in 2022 with the launch of a new book of nearly 200 limericks, all featuring small towns across Grey and Bruce counties, written by Dean Carriere, long-time resident of the Bruce Peninsula.
The first limerick came to him while re-roofing an old barn outside Wiarton which he renovated into a passive solar home. The result was so darn delightful, it triggered the writing of hundreds of more poems over the years which his children compiled into the book, Limericks of Grey Bruce, joyously illustrated by his son.
This year's event, the SAG BLufF or Second Annual Grey Bruce Limerick Festival, will be held at Mudtown Station Brewery and Restaurant on St. Patrick's Day, Friday Mar. 17.
The event will feature the musical delights of two bands assembled just for the event, The Blarney Arses and The Jig is Up, headed up by Partick Dorfman and Frank Francalanza.
New this year, we are launching a limerick contest to draw the best new limericks out of the creative minds of Grey Brucers.
Contest categories include winners for the cheekiest poem (without being too crass!), the oldest and youngest poets, for imbuing the most wisdom or lessons for humanity in your poem, and for successfully rhyming the hardest-to-rhyme town name.
Winners will receive free admission to the festival and an opportunity to read their poem between songs.
Contest and event details, and ticket purchase can be found here, with proceeds going to pay the musicians.
