Cobble Beach held its inaugural 5km Lighthouse Fun Run sponsored by MacLean’s Ales on Sunday, April 30th. The event was organized to raise funds for the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce's financial assistance program, which supports individuals in financial need who wish to access health, fitness and aquatics programs.
Thanks to the participation of Fun Run/Walk attendees, $6000.00 was generously donated to the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce’s Strong Community financial assistance program. Last year alone, the program distributed $83,000, which assisted 247 individuals in need.
At the Y, we firmly believe that everyone should have access to health, fitness and aquatics programs, regardless of their financial circumstances. Unfortunately, many people in Grey and Bruce County lack the resources needed to participate in these programs. In fact, approximately 15% of children and seniors across Grey Bruce live below the poverty line.
According to YMCA CEO Sarah Cowley, "The YMCA is incredibly grateful for this generous donation. As a charity dedicated to building healthy communities, our goal is to ensure that our programs and services are accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Thanks to donations like these, we can help people be active, build confidence, make friends, and create lasting memories at the YMCA."
The 5km Lighthouse Fun Run was a great success, and we look forward to similar events in the future. With the help of dedicated donors and volunteers, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most!
