A pandemic, a devastating fire, a global recession – these challenges brought many Canadian businesses to a close, but for Chapman’s, it bolstered their resilient spirit.
Serving millions of Canadians across the country, Chapman’s credits its dedicated employees and family recipes that have created award-winning flavours with its incredible success.
Supporting the Canadian dairy farmers with every scoop, Chapman’s is celebrating its 50 years in business, which puts them in a league of prestigious Canadian businesses that have withstood the test of time.
In 1973, David and Penny Chapman moved above an old creamery in Markdale to start their new ice cream business. With only six employees and four old trucks they began making first 15 flavours of ice cream, including iconic Butterscotch Ripple and Dutch Chocolate.
This original iconic product line of boxed ice cream can still be found on the shelfs under the Markdale Creamery name.
“I grew up in this business and have learned a lot since I joined the company full time in 2008," says Ashley Chapman, COO.
"The evolution and success of the business has been an honour to be a part of. More importantly though, the impact of Chapman’s charitable initiatives and partnerships in communities across Canada makes me incredibly proud.”
Although the road to success over the past 50 years hasn’t always been as smooth as their frozen treats, Chapman’s resilient and entrepreneurial spirit has propelled them through every twist and turn, landing them at the top of best-of lists – #1 Frozen Yogurt and most-popular Ice Cream Sandwich to name a few.
Chapman’s also takes pride in being the leader in nut-free and peanut-free desserts, with an entire production plant dedicated to products for various dietary restrictions.
Looking ahead, Chapman’s is excited to expand upon its 50-year success by introducing a unique luxury product called Super Premium Plus, now in grocery stores across Canada. The theme of innovation will continue in its production, products, flavours, and carbon footprint.
What won’t change is Chapman’s unwavering commitment to Canadian dairy farmers, families and employees.
Traditional recipes and time-honoured values that have held firm throughout the past 50 years for the family-run business will continue for years to come, along with revolutionary new products and concepts.
