The Georgian Bay Symphony opens their 52nd season on Saturday Oct. 28, with some of the spookiest music ever written.
A Hallowe’en Fright Night will include selections from Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera, Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre, Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain and over a dozen other spine tingling favourites.
The orchestra has chosen music for this concert that everyone will recognize featuring lots of percussion including the eerie tubular bells along with the scary crash of cymbals – and the brass will almost be bursting off the stage!
Concert goers are encouraged to dress up and there will be an area to take photos that they can post to their social media.
The concert will be over in time for patrons to head out to their next Hallowe’en event.
This concert will also feature guest conductor Jeffrey Pollock, the first of five candidates for the position of GBS Music Director. Pollock comes from the Hamilton area where he is the Music Director of Sinfonia Ancaster. He has been in rehearsals with the orchestra since the beginning of September.
“We are pleased to have qualified candidates auditioning for the position of Symphony Music Director”, says GBS President Nancy MacDonald.
"The whole orchestra is looking forward to seeing how each conductor performs. It will be an exciting season, and both our audience and musicians will have a say in who is offered the position. We hope a new Director is in place by early summer to take us into our 53rd season.”
The next Symphony event is the traditional Christmas concert on Saturday, Dec. 2. This popular concert includes a carol singalong and lots of seasonal favourites. The orchestra will also be hosting a short, free family concert that afternoon.
People will also not want to miss the Family Day weekend concert in February called Space: The Final Frontier with music from Star Wars, Star Trek, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Mars and Jupiter from Holst’s The Planets, and other music to take concert goers to the stars!
This concert has assigned seating and should prove to be popular so purchasing advance through the Georgian Bay Symphony website is advised.
Remaining tickets can be purchased at the East Ridge on Saturday, Oct. 28, after 6:00 p.m.
